"THE LATE SIR CHARLES ROSE. Sir Charles Day Bt., M.P., who died suddenly in his motor car while returning on Saturday from aviation meeting at Hendon, to London, belonged to the very ancient family Rose of Kilravock, which has owned the Kilravock estate since the reign of King John (Balliol). John Rose of Turriff, Aberdeenshire, son of John Rose who was resident some time at Kilravock and afterwards at Edingight, (Aberdeenshire) died in 1836, leaving a son William, born at Turriff, (Aberdeenshire) in 1792, who in turn, had son John, who attained great distinction in the public service in Canada. Born in 1820, this John Rose was called to the Canadian Bar in 1842, and became a Q.C. nine years later. Among the the posts he filled were those of Solicitor-General, Minister of Public Works, and Minister of Finance. In 1870 he was created a K.C.M.G., and in 1872, a baronet. On his death in 1888 he was succeeded in the baronetcy by his eldest son, William, whose son Cyril now holds the title. The late Sir Charles Day Rose was Sir John's second son, and was created a baronet in 1909. It may be mentioned that he was a partner in the American banking house of Messrs. Morton, Rose, and Company, of London, and that he joined Lord Mount Stephen and Lord Strathcona in the syndicate which they formed for the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. INQUEST NECESSARY. . it has been found necessary to hold an inquest on Sir C. D. Rose. The inquiry will be held at Westminster Coroner's Court this morning."
