This is a self-portrait of the Manchester artist John Ralston 1789-1933.
He was commissioned by Manchester City Council to paint a number of Manchester scenes - 38 we think - of the slum and run down central area of Manchester circa 1815 -1820 prior to major redevelopment.
I have books depicting his many works together with the history of the buildings and people in the area. I have 10 prints as well as a copy of the original commission from MCC.
My wife is a descendant of Ralston - the collection is for sale.
