Fraser was a political activist who opposed nuclear weapons and campaigned for better housing and women’s working rights. In 1944 she became the Scottish women’s organiser for the Communist Party and the secretary of the Scottish Communist Party’s women’s advisory committee, recruiting many women. She organised the first Scottish National Assembly of Women held in Glasgow on 8 March, 1953, on the theme of ‘The world we want for our children’ attended by 400 delegates from women’s organisations. In 1949 Fraser toured a decorated ‘peace bus’ around Scotland, warning people about the threat of nuclear warfare. She joined the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in 1958. Suffering with severe depression, she died from a drug overdose in 1970.
