Unity Mitford

(1914-1948), Nazi sympathiser; daughter of 2nd Baron Redesdale

Hon. Unity Valkyrie Freeman-Mitford

Sitter in 15 portraits
Blonde sister of Nancy, Diana, Jessica and Deborah Mitford, Unity became a member of Adolf Hitler's salon in Munich in 1933 which regarded her as an outstanding example of Nordic beauty. Deeply in love with Hitler who discouraged any discussion of politics she nevertheless attempted to encourage good relations with Britain. On 3 September 1939, the day Britain and France declared war on Germany she shot herself and was sent home to England never fully recovering.
