William Alexander Gerhardie

Novelist; born of English parents in Petrograd, during the First World War served there in the British Embassy and with the British military mission in Siberia before going to Oxford University where he wrote the first of many novels, Futility: A Novel on Russian Themes (1922); his best-known work is Polyglots (1925).
