Sitter in 7 portraits
Blyton created Noddy, one of the most popular and enduring children's characters, in 1949. Educated at boarding school and trained as a governess, by 1921 Blyton's children's stories were appearing regularly in magazines and she was able to give up teaching. In a career spanning thirty-five years she wrote picture books and many children's novels, including the Malory Towers school series, and the Famous Five and Secret Seven adventures. She was said to have written between six and ten thousand words per day, working on a portable typewriter on her knee.
