(1881-1972), Child author

Margaret Mary Julia ('Daisy') Ashford

Sitter in 1 portrait
Margaret Mary Julia 'Daisy' Ashford was born in Petersham, Surrey and is celebrated for the book she wrote when she was nine, The Young Visiters, or Mr Salteena's Plan. Ashford rediscovered the book in 1919 when it was first published. It became an instant cult classic with a dramatisation the following year which also marked her marriage. Ashford wrote nothing further but her book was turned into a musical in 1968 and a television special in 2003, starring Jim Broadbent.
