Andrew Tift
(1968-), PainterArtist of 6 portraits
Tift studied at Stafford College of Art and the University of Central England. He has exhibited many times in the BP Portrait Award, winning the Travel Award in 1994 (which he used to visit Japan), third prize in 1999 (for his portrait of Tony Benn for the House of Commons) and first prize in 2006 (for his triptych portrait of Kitty Garman, Freud's first wife). Tift has won many other awards including The Japan Festival Award, The European Painting Award at the Frissiras Museum, Athens and the Emerson Group Award at the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. In 1998 he was commissioned by the Gallery to paint a double portrait of Neil and Glenys Kinnock, which was unveiled in 2002.
