Sir Quentin Saxby Blake

Artist, illustrator and teacher. Educated at Downing College, Cambridge and Chelsea School of Art. Freelance illustrator since 1957. Tutor at Royal College of Art (1965-86), Head of Illustration Department (1978-86), Senior Fellow (1988) and visiting professor from 1989, Children's Laureate (1999). Blake has illustrated over 250 books for children and adults including collaborations with Roald Dahl, Russell Hoban and Joan Aitken. In 2001 he curated the Tell me a picture exhibition at the National Gallery .
