Sir Bhupindra Singh, Maharaja of Patiala

(1891-1938), Indian ruler

Sitter in 13 portraits
Succeeded his father as Maharaja of Patiala taking over the Government in 1910. As a leader of the Sikhs in India, took a prominent part in the Great War and Indian affairs. He was chancellor of the Indian Chamber of Princes (1926-30) and in the latter year led the Indian States delegation at the Round Table Conference in London. He was well known as a cricketer (this photograph was taken during his 1911 visit during which he captained the Indian visiting cricketing team) and was also instrumental as a populariser of the game in India.
