Matthew Spender

Matthew Spender studied sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art and moved to Italy in 1968 with his wife Maro Gorky. He is particularly known for his large-scale limewood carvings of religious subjects and has also written several books about the Armenian-born artist Arshile Gorky, his wife's father.
