Jean Shrimpton

(1942-), Model

Sitter in 18 portraits
Fashion model. Graduated from Lucie Clayton's modelling school aged 17 in 1960, the year in which she met David Bailey, while he was assisting the photographer John French. The young couple's electric partnership saw the creation of the gawky urchin nicknamed 'The Shrimp'. For three years, Bailey and Shrimpton worked almost exclusively together, travelling to New York to create the now iconic images for Vogue's 'Young Idea' and interpreting 1960s Swinging London for the Americans. In 1979, she married Michael Cox. Together, they raised a family, and found domestic bliss running a hotel in Cornwall.
