Charles Bretherton
(circa 1760-1783), Engraver and printseller; son of James BrethertonArtist associated with 47 portraits
Despite his very short life, Charles Bretherton created a number of fine etchings based upon the works of contemporary artists. He was trained by his father, James Bretherton, who was a well-known London etcher and publisher. All of Bretherton's etchings were published by his father, and some of them were re-issued several years later by S.W. Fores. Between 1771 and 1780 Charles and James Bretherton etched numerous designs after the satirical art of Henry William Bunbury .
