Richard Lester
(1932-), Film directorSitter in 10 portraits
Lester entered the early American television industry in 1950 and his career progressed quickly in what was still a young industry there. He moved to London in 1953, and worked with Peter Sellers on a television version of The Goon Show called The Idiot Weekly, Price 2d (1956). Lester became one of the most influential directors of the 1960s, notable for his films with The Beatles: A Hard Day's Night (1964) and Help! (1965). The frenetic cutting style in these films influenced many later music videos. During the 1980s, he directed films in the Superman series.
