A character actor of stage and screen, Postlethwaite trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Film appearances include A Private Function (1984), In the Name of the Father (1993), for which he received an Oscar nomination, The Usual Suspects (1995), Brassed Off (1997) and Inception (2010). In 2002 his theatre performances included a revival of Harold Pinter's The Homecoming at Manchester Royal Exchange and Scaramouche Jones, a one-man play at Bristol Old Vic. In 2008 he returned to the Everyman to play King Lear, transferring to the Young Vic in London.
