Ted Heath's band has been described as the best British swing band ever. Formed in 1945, they appeared for many years in the Sunday Night Swing Session at the London Palladium and featured in a succession of British musical films from London Town (1946) to It's a Wonderful World (1956) and Jazz Boat (1960). played trombone with Jack Hylton, Bert Ambrose and Geraldo before starting his own band (1944); made his name with 27 consecutive broadcasts on the radio programme, Top Ten.
