Actress; appeared on stage in London and New York in the 1950s, creating the part of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady on Broadway. Made her film debut in Walt Disney's Mary Poppins (1964, Best Actress Academy Award) and went on to star in the hugely successful The Sound of Music (1965).
