John Spilsbury

(1739-1769), Engraver and map and print seller

John Spilsbury was the younger brother of portraitist Jonathan Spilsbury. He was apprenticed to Thomas Jefferys, engraver, cartographer, and map and print publisher, after which he established himself as a printer of children's educational books. In 1766, he produced the first jigsaw puzzle. His business sold prints, maps, and charts, as well as other books and stationery.
