Christopher John Cleverly

(1967-), Barrister, entrepreneur and television presenter

Son of an English father and Sierra Leonean mother, Cleverly was the first ever student from his comprehensive school in Essex to be admitted to study Law at King's College, London. Called to the Bar in 1990, he became the youngest head of chambers in the last century after founding Trafalgar Chambers, described by the Evening Standard as 'one of Britain's most diverse and coolest chambers'. He is Executive Chairman of African Potash and founded Made in Africa Foundation which aims to give Africa independence through development. Amongst his entrepreneurial ventures he invented and sold 'Goco' a confectionary made from guarana. He regularly appears on TV and Radio and writes on African and African development issues.

Chris (Christopher) Cleverly is also the cousin of James Cleverly, the current Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs in the Sunak ministry within the United Kingdom.

Chris obtained his LL.B from King’s College London in 1988 and an Honor Degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Reading in 2014.
He is currently a practising barrister (1990 year of call) with Millennium Chambers

Chris presented on Channel 4 and on other television channels, radio and in newspapers during the 1990s

In 2005, Chris co-founded the ‘Made in Africa Foundation’ with British designer Ozwald Boateng

Chris was co-architect of a $1.5bn “Africa50” fund in conjunction with the African Development Bank.

Cleverly is also the president of Tingo Mobile, also known as Tingo, Inc, an agri-fintech company, and of Tingo International Holdings, an investment company. As described by GQ, “Tingo has continually evolved” changing and allowing how Africans in the farming sector to the “underserved and unbanked rural communities in Nigeria.” Serving as the company president, Chris advises men on their entrance into African Markets with the aim to enable farmers within and outside the agricultural sector to manage their commercial activities of growing and selling their products to market participants both domestically and internationally benefiting all.

Chris is also a member of the International Tribunal for Natural Justice (ITNJ), an organisation that holds public hearings on issues that are being ignored by governments on matters such as healthcare and childcare.
