Walter Benington
(1872-1936), PhotographerArtist associated with 67 portraits
Walter Benington started his photographic career while still at school. The snapping of groups and friends soon palled, and he took up platinotype printing and pictorial landscape work. His first real success was a picture entitled Among the Housetops, which was exhibited in 1893, and this was responsible for him being invited to join the Linked Ring, in whose annual shows he was regularly represented. In 1927 Benington began working for the photographic studio Elliott & Fry as a freelance portrait photographer.
