Gibraltar-born fashion designer, moved to London in 1966. Graduated from St. Martin's School of Art in 1984 and achieved instant acclaim with his first collection. Moved to Paris in 1991 becoming Givenchy's head designer (1995-1997). Since 1997 has worked as Chief Designer for Christian Dior alongside designing his own collections. Voted 'British Designer of the Year' in 1987, 1994 and 1995 and in 1997 shared the award with Alexander McQueen. He coordinated Dior's 1999 ready-to-wear advertising, working with Nick Knight who has been his long-time collaborator. In 2001 he was awarded a CBE in Queen's Birthday Honours list.
