We knew this lady when we used to stay with her, her husband, her daughter and granddaughters in Norway for our summer holidays in the 1960s. There are photos of the house that was in the Archer Family in Norway on the internet - type in Rophaug, Sand, Norway and Archer and an archive will come up. Her daughter, Esther, died some time ago, her grand-daughter, Kari Blackburn was the BBC's Head of African Services until her early death. She has one grand daughter living as far as we know who is called Lucy. Ruth Archer was affectionately known as Mor Mor by the family which reflects her Norwegian connections. I remember her as a gentle, kind person who took me to redcurrant picking on the slopes of the estate. If you want to know more we can probably find an address for her surviving grand daughter Lucy. She had a son called Ronnie who we understand is also dead but we are not in touch with his family although we know he had four children.
There are occasions when we are unsure of the identity of a sitter or artist, their life dates, occupation or have not recorded their family relationships. Sometimes we have not recorded the date of a portrait. Do you have specialist knowledge or a particular interest about any aspect of the portrait or sitter or artist that you can share with us? We would welcome any information that adds to and enhances our information and understanding about a particular portrait, sitter or artist.
How do you know this? Please could you let us know your source of information.
