Catherine MacDonald

, Mechanical engineer

Sitter in 1 portrait
Mechanical engineer. Studied engineering at Cambridge University, specialising in mechanical engineering. MacDonald is currently employed by Jordan Grand Prix in Silverstone designing parts for the Jordan Formula I car, mainly those made of carbon-fibre-reinforced-plastic (CFRP). She utilises computer-aided design (CAD) and calculations and aims to make parts stronger and lighter than before. In her spare time she races motorbikes and skydives. 'Seeing the Jordan cars racing inspires me in my work. It is hugely satisfying when the race results are good, knowing I have helped to design the cars.'
