Born in Cuba, Carlos Acosta started dancing at the age of nine. In 1993, he made his American stage debut as the Prince in The Nutcracker, the following year became the National Ballet of Cuba's Principal Dancer and in 1998 became the first black principal dancer at The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden. Acosta has performed with some of the worlds greatest companies including Paris Opera, the Bolshoi, ABT, and England's Royal Ballet, dancing almost every classical role from Macmillan to Balanchine as well as more contemporary roles. Carlos was featured in 'The Reluctant Ballet Dancer', a programme in the Imagine series shown on BBC1. His autobiography No Way Home was published in 2008.
