Sitter in 1 portrait
Ainslie began sailing at the age of eight. Won silver in the Laser class for sailing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and went on to win gold in the same event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In his first year of competing in the Finn class he broke all records by becoming both European Champion and World Champion, and was rewarded for his efforts by being voted 2002 ISAF World Sailor of the Year. In 2003 Ainslie won the Finn World Championships in Cadiz, Spain and as a result was selected for the British team for Athens. He won gold in the men's Finn class at the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. This made him the first sailor to win medals in five different Olympic games.
