A renowned jazz performer and versatile composer, Bennett's output includes opera, orchestral and choral works, concertos and song cycles. Key compositions include Sonnets to Orpheus (1979) and The Glory and the Dream (2001). His film scores include Murder on the Orient Express (1974) and Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). Bennett's interest in the avant-garde was aroused by lessons with Elisabeth Lutyens and his studies in Paris with Pierre Boulez.
