Sir Ian Holm

Holm graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1950. As an acclaimed actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Holm appeared at Stratford-upon-Avon in 1963 as Richard of Gloucester in Peter Hall's production of John Barton's trilogy The War of the Roses. 1960s film appearances included John Frankenheimer's The Fixer (1968) with Alan Bates and Dirk Bogarde, and Richard Attenborough's Oh! What a Lovely War (1969). Holm was also well known as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lord of the Rings (2001-3) and The Hobbit (2012-14).
