Samantha Morton

Morton grew up in Nottingham and, as a child, joined the Central Junior Television Workshop. At sixteen, she appeared on stage at the Royal Court Theatre in Ashes and Sand. Television roles in Band of Gold (1995) and Under the Skin (1997) raised her profile and led to her role in Woody Allen's Sweet and Lowdown (1999). In 2002 Morton won the Best Actress award at the British Independent Film Awards for Morvern Callar, and was nominated for the Best Actress awards for In America (2003) and Longford (2008) at the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Other films include Control (2007), Synedoche, New York (2008) and The Messenger (2009).
