Frank Davis was my grandfather and a regular contributor to Country Life right up until until his death in 1990, aged 98. Educated at King's College, Worcester and Hertford College, Oxford (although he left without a degree shortly before the outbreak of the First World War). Served four years at the front with the London Regiment as a transport officer in the First World War. Worked for The Burlington Magazine after the war and later as Personnel Manager at a steelworks in Lincolnshire during the Second World War. Resumed writing books and articles about art and antiques after his retirement int he 1950s, briefly worked as salesroom correspondent of The Times, and as long serving salesroom columnist for Illustrated London News and Country Life. Obituary in various newspapers including The Independent, The Telegraph and Times.
