Deborah Warner is best known for her innovative interpretations of the works of Shakespeare, Sophocles, Bach, Berg, Beckett, Brecht and Ibsen and for her long-term working relationship with the actress Fiona Shaw. She set up her own theatre company, Kick, in 1980 and was Resident Director of the RSC (1987-9), where she achieved Best Director, and the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for her production of Titus Andronicus (1987). She became Associate Director of the Royal National Theatre (1990-8) and Associate Director of the Abbey Theatre, Dublin in 2000. Her acclaimed productions include The Turn of the Screw at the Royal Opera House (Evening Standard and South Bank Awards 1998).
