Leonard Monro Boden

Born in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Leonard Boden was a noted portrait painter. Elected member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, he was a gold medallist at the Paris Salon and chairman of the Chelsea Arts Club in the 1960s. Having trained at the Glasgow School of Art and Heatherley's in London, he established a portrait practice following World War II, during which he served as a gunner and in military intelligence. His distinguished sitters include Pope Pius XII (1957), painted for the Vatican, and nineteen royal portraits, including ten portraits of Queen Elizabeth II.
