He was Political Agent at Kuwait during the Second World War, and met Ibn Saud in Saudi Arabia in 1942.

Sir Tom was my Uncle. His father was George Ryland Hickinbotham. He had two siblings, one of some reknown and 5 half siblings of which my father Peter was one. I went to Sir Tom’s memorial service at Westminster Cathedral in 1983.
