William Ewart Grist was my Grandfather.
He retired from the Singer Company around 1964, and spent his final years in Eastbourne with his wife Gwendoline until his passing in 1966.
If the portrait is painted, it would have have been by Gwen, who was a prolific artist within the Sussex area at this time.
My Grandfather was also painted by her in his chief scout uniform (he was Sussex chief scout). Gwen passed away in 2004. I do possess a number of her paintings (sadly none of my Grandfather) though.
