I remember being told as a child in the 1960s that my grandmother ,whose maiden name was Opie, had a cousin who became an Air Vice Marshal. They were a Cornish family and owned a farm near Redruth.
The story I heard was that her cousin had at one time been the head of the RAF at Singapore. After he retired he lived on the island of Ibiza.
I suspect Wiliam Alfred Opie must be the same person.
