Kim Scott Howells
(1946-), Politician; Minister of State for EducationSitter in 1 portrait
Minister for the Middle East in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office since May 2005. Howells was educated at Hornsey College of Art and Warwick University. He worked as a steel worker and then coal miner (1969-71). Elected MP for Pontypridd in a 1989 by-election. Became Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in 1997. In 2003 he became a minister at the Department of Transport and as Arts Minister Howells caused controversy for his views on the 2002 Turner Prize.
