Ian McCartney
(1951-), Politician; Minister of State for TradeSitter in 1 portrait
Appointed Minister Without Portfolio and Party Chair in April 2003. A councillor for Wigan Borough (1982-87), McCartney was elected MP for Makerfield in 1987. At the Department of Trade and Industry he steered through legislation creating a national minimum wage, the fairness at work legislation and the Competition Act. Other positions held include Minister of State for Pensions (2001-3), Minister of State for the Cabinet Office (1999-2001) and Minister of State at the Department of Trade and Industry (1997-9).
