Coming from the Joint Stock Theatre group Stafford-Clark was artistic director from 1979 to 1993. Keenly interested in young playwrights, he particularly championed the work of female writers such as Caryl Churchill and Timberlake Wertenbaker. Now running his own touring company, Out of Joint, he remains closely connected to 'the Court' and in January 2006 will direct Stella Feehly's O Go my Man.
