Born to distinguished actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, Redgrave graduated in English from King's College, Cambridge. Early stage roles included Lysander in Tony Richardson's 1962 Royal Court production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. An ardent political activist, during the 1960s Redgrave and his sister Vanessa were members of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Celebrated later stage roles included Corialanus (1989), King Lear with The Royal Shakespeare Company (2004) and a solo show portraying critic Kenneth Tynan (2005).
