Lisa Anne Jardine

(1944-2015), Historian and writer; professor of Renaissance Studies, University College London

Historian and author. Jardine was educated at Cheltenham Ladies College and the University of Cambridge. She has held numerous lecturing posts including Fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge (1976-89). From 1989 until her death, Jardine was Centenary Professor of Renaissance Studies at Queen Mary, University of London and Director of the AHRB Research Centre for Editing Lives and Letters (since 2002). Her books include Reading Shakespeare Historically (1996), Hostage to Fortune: The troubled life of Sir Francis Bacon (1998), On a Grander Scale: The Outstanding Life and Tumultuous Times of Sir Christopher Wren (2002) and The Awful End of Prince William the Silent was published in 2005.
