The book was published in the UK in 1925 by Sidgwick and Jackson, London, so the manuscript would pre-date that date, unless it was typed later for a production.

I have a typewritten manuscript of the play, The Pleasure Garden, by Beatrice Mayor. There is no indication of date or who had typed the manuscript. It is bound in a cardboard cover with the pages glued to the spine and trimmed with black tape. I've had it for some thirty or more years.

Beatrice's father Daniel was a wealthy merchant banker; the 'London Remembers' website has a good piece on him. She married Robert John Grote Mayor (1869-1947), a civil servant. Their daughter Tessa served in MI5 during the war and became Victor Rothschild's second wife. Virginia Woolf knew, but was not close friends with, Beatrice ('Bobo') and Robert. She attended the opening of Beatrice's play 'Little Earthquake' in 1933 (Diary vol. 4, 166), and mentions them here and there in her diaries and letters. Beatrice's grand-daughter Emma Rothschild is a formidable economic historian, now at Harvard.
