Couzins studied at Swindon College of Art & Design (1963-6) before working as a photographer's assistant for Gordon Young. In 1968 he moved to London, assisting photographer Ida Kar and lodging with her at Rex Place, Mayfair. From 1971 Couzins worked with photographers including Mark Gerson, Anthony Crickmay and Lester Bookbinder, before establishing his own studio in 1975 specialising in advertising, design and portraits; his music subjects included Kiss, Supertramp and Led Zeppelin.
