Vincent Gosford

(circa 1817-1891), Land agent and steward of the Tichborne estates; friend and confidante to Roger Doughty-Tichborne

Sitter in 1 portrait
Sir Edward Doughty's steward Gosford was a close friend and confidante to Roger Tichborne. Prior to his travels, Roger entrusted Gosford with a 'sealed packet', the contents of which became the subject of much speculation during the Tichborne criminal trial. The Claimant alleged he had seduced his cousin Kattie (by now Lady Radcliffe) and it contained instructions on how to deal with a possible pregnancy in his absence. This scandalous assertion caused outcry and made proving Lady Radcliffe's respectability a secondary element of the case.
