No, this isn’t Edith Plowden, wife of Philip Plowden. She was born much later

No, Philip's wife Edith (1905-91) is not the woman pictured. She was born Florence Edith Croker Poole, the daughter of Major Walter Croker Poole of Aglish, Co. Waterford, and Florence Clark of Philadelphia. The woman in the picture was Philip's aunt. I know this because Philip and Edith were my parents.

This is Edith Ramsay Chicheley Plowden, born 2nd October 1854. Escaped with life in Meerut 1857 with her brother. Was in Lahore as a young woman looking after her brothers when Kipling went out there, and took him under her wing. Was his lifelong friend and correspondent, but he used to destroy all the letters he got at the end of each day. Her papers are at Sussex University. She became an artist, in woodcarving. She died in 1947.
