J H Wilson was a sailor who founded a union that became the National Union of Seamen. He became a Liberal MP 3 times. His best friend was samuel PLIMSOLL, who was also a Liberal MP. Together they fought for better working conditions for sailors & to make ships safer. Together they obtained those conditions & a major step was the introduction of the Plimsoll Line which still protects all ships & their crews all over the world today. He worked closely with the Government in WW1 to ensure Britain had the maritime strength & ability to win.
