Robert Clothier, miniature portrait artist and photographer, was the youngest son of John Clothier and Mary (nee Parsons) born on 20th January 1821 at Castle Street, Bloomsbury. His father was a coal merchant.
Robert exhibited his works for a time in Shrewsbury in the 1840s at Mssrs Sandford & Howells and Mr Bowdler's in the High Street. It's possible he met his future wife whilst there as he married Elizabeth Freebairn on 18 Apr 1850 at St Chad, Shrewsbury. They spent almost all their married life at Chepstow Place, Kensington and had a daughter, Elizabeth Freebairn Clothier (b.1851 Liverpool) and a son, Robert Freebairn Clothier (b. 1853 Cheshire).
Robert Clothier died on 5th July 1877 at 28 Chepstow Place, after a long illness. Elizabeth survived him for many years dying in 1922 aged 99 years.
