Ara Warkes Darzi, Baron Darzi of Denham

(1960-), Surgeon and Professor of Surgery

British-Armenian surgeon, Darzi obtained his fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons and a M.D. degree from Trinity College, Dublin. He holds the Chair of Surgery at Imperial College London and the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Darzi's work concerns the advancement of minimal invasive surgery, using surgical robots and image guided surgery. This work has received international recognition including the Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence (2004). He published a report for the National Health Service (NHS) Healthcare for London: A Framework for Action (2007). As a government minister, Darzi has helped steer the course of health-related legislation through the Lords.
