Jurist, barrister and politician, Dennis Lloyd was Quain Professor of Law at the University of London from 1956 and Head of Department of Laws from 1969 to 1981. His seminal books include The Idea of Law (1964) and Introduction to Jurisprudence (1959), which was a key textbook for many years and remains a model guide on the subject of legal thought. He became a QC in 1975, and as a law reformer was one of the architects of the Rent Act of 1965.
