I have recently been researching Robert Charles Dudley in connection with his drawings and paintings of the 1865 and 1866 Atlantic cable expeditions.
In common with most on-line references, the NPG has the wrong date for Dudley's death. I do not know the source of this error, but it has been widely copied, apparently without any reference to original documents. Instead of 1900 the date should be 1909.

Evidence:

Here is a published letter by Dudley about his involvement in the Atlantic cable project ("The Story of a Cable Buoy"), written in 1893 and showing his full name and address:

Here is the probate record retrieved from Ancestry.com, showing the identical name and address and the death date of 1909:

(link to the source of this at the UK Probate Office is in Citation field)

I hope you can correct this date in the NPG's catalog entries for this artist.
