Dame Carol Ann Duffy

Poet, playwright and children's writer, Glasgow born Duffy read philosophy at Liverpool University. The success of her first poetry collection Standing Female Nude (1985) was followed by award-winning collections including Selling Manhattan (1988), Mean Time (1993) and Rapture (2005). She was awarded an OBE in 1995 and a CBE in 2001. Duffy is the country's twentieth Poet Laureate, succeeding Andrew Motion on 1 May 2009.
