In 1895 Stone was returned unopposed as Member of Parliament for the East Birmingham constituency, giving him the unique opportunity of recording the sights and personalities of the Palace of Westminster. Stone made it his business to photograph every MP, servants of the Houses of Parliament, and many of those who visited. The National Portrait Gallery owns two thousand of his photographs, a remarkable record of comings and goings at Westminster around 1900.
